Victorian High
Country - January 2006 |

|
After years of hearing wonderful stories from our
customers, we decided it was time to pack up the family and head to the hills
and have some adventures of our own.
We had camped for years, but not “bush camping”, you know, the no
flushing toilets, off the beaten track type of camping, so we packed up our Oodnadatta Heavy Duty Off Road camper
trailer, armed ourselves with our “Explore Australia by 4WD” book by Craig
Lewis and Cathy Savage, our recovery vehicle and good friend, and our shovel
(alias “the flusher”) and off we went. Our trip took us from Corryong to Mansfield
through the Victorian High Country. We
learnt very quickly the importance of following the trip meter and not
looking out for the sign posts, because the sign posts just ain’t
there!! Let me just say, we saw a lot
more on the first day of our trip than we planned on....Craig and Cathy, next
time I see you at a Show, remind me to fill you in with info about the places
you didn’t get to see because you were following your trip meter!!
Crossing the Murray River at Tom
Groggin – not a drop of water in the camper!!
We had a fantastic time, the
camper was just great – performed brilliantly no matter where we dragged it and at the end of the
day it was just so quick and easy to be fully set up, ready to have a nice cold beer, cook the
dinner and get the kids off to bed.
From the High Country we headed
down to the Great Ocean Road before any more of the 12 Apostles crumbled
away. We ended up in Adelaide before heading back
to Sydney. What a great way to spend
our last night – camped on the banks of the Murray River among the mighty red
river gums.

December 2006/January 2007 We couldn’t wait to get away bush camping again
and this year saw us heading towards the Snowy Mountains where we followed
the Snowy River from it’s start at Lake Jindabyne to it’s end at Marlo in
Victoria, crossing the river at Jacksons Crossing. We had a new camper to try out this year – the Oodnadatta Heavy Duty Off Road with independent
suspension – and we were really happy with it’s performance –
happy to follow us wherever we went, including going down “The Staircase” on
the Deddick Trail.

The Snowy River from McKillops Bridge, Chocolate Muffins baked in camp oven

awning roof. Hail the size of Chuppa
Chups but not a drop inside the canopy!
